With so many promises you hear from different weight loss dietary supplement brands, it’s sometimes pretty hard to hold your ground and not to spend another 100 dollars for the next “effortless” way of shed off as much pounds in as few days as possible.
Weight loss pills market now is filled with all possible kinds of all-natural or herbal weight loss supplements.
If we take USA and UK alone, the dieters in these two countries spent 47 millions of pounds in the UK alone, and even more millions in the USA, in the previous year. As the spending we make on weight loss pills seem just enormous, we can realize that there is a huge emotional motivation that makes us exchange money for a fat burning promises.
However, the obesity and overweight seem to keep our nations by storm, and the obesity rates keep raising from year to year. So, as you can see, most of the “miraculous” products simply don’t work! So we decided to use the rich experience of FDA that works hard trying to warn us from buying useless and even dangerous weight loss pills and supplements.
Before spending your money for the weight loss supplement, you have to make an informed and smart decision, not an emotional “buying”. As FDA advises, ask these five questions before taking out your wallet or credit card.
4 questions to ask yourself before buying any weight loss supplement:
1. Do I really need exactly the nutrients that the supplement contains? Is this diet pill the best way to get the nutrients I really need? Sometimes all we need to fill in the gaps in our diet is a standard multi-vitamin pack that we can get from a local drugstore, and pay 10 times less for it.
2. Do the weight loss supplements claims really make any sense? FDA restricts supplement manufacturers from claims that the product can cure or treat diseases, however marketing tactics are very sneaky – so be skeptical reading that XYZ supplement will allow you to eat whatever you want and still lose calories. Just don’t let them play on your emotions.
3. Can I achieve my weight loss goals in a safer way? If there’s no real scientific background behind the product, it sometimes can be more risky for you to intake the supplement into your body than just leave these extra 2 pounds untouched. The arguable ingredients may interact with the medications you might be taking, or simply put your health at risk, like the banned ephedrine supplements that led to serious risks of heart attacks.
4. Again, if the weight loss supplements really safe? The natural or herbal non-prescription supplement may not mean it’s absolutely safe. At least, with prescription diet pills you know for sure which side effects to expect and in what cases not to take the diet pill at all. With natural diet pills, you should make sure that all the ingredients are really safe to use.
5. Is the supplement USP-verified? If you see this sign on a label, you can be sure that the supplement really contains what’s listed in its label. US Pharmacopeia is an independent organization that test different over the counter product to ensure their containment is exactly in dosages and lists as claimed on the labels. You can visit their official site and find a list of all the supplements they’ve tested and approved.
