When it comes down to bug bites are usually no harm but can be itchy and painful. They can cause pain and inflammation to the spot of the bite. Herbal aids can be helpful in dealing with both the irritation and inflammation of the bug bite. If you are allergic to bug stings, are stung multiple times or are stung on the neck you should seek medical attention.
First of all, aloe – moisturizing characteristics of aloe help hasten the healing. It also has anti-bacterial properties. If you have a live plant simply cut a small piece of leaf and scoop out the gel and apply to the bite. Commercial aloe products are available at drug stores.
Another herb is witch hazel – witch hazel has astringent characteristics and helps bring down the swelling in the tissue. Apply to the bite with a sterile cotton swab. It is a good idea to have this readily available for situations like this.
Then we should also mention calendula – calendula is an anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial herb that helps heal wounds. It can be found in many commercial forms at your local health store. Apply directly to the bite as needed.
One more thing to take into account is comfrey – Something called allantoin is in comfrey, which has antiseptic characteristics and also speeds healing. You can use fresh, crushed comfrey leaves to add directly on the bite. It is also available in many salves and lotions. Do not ingest.
Another Problem – Sleeplessness
Beyond any doubt difficulty sleeping affects millions of people – there are times when you just can’t get to sleep. Instead of taking prescription medications that can be harmful or addictive, try an herbal treatment.
Well, the typical remedy is Valerian – herb is known to help you sleep and does not have any side effects, such as grogginess in the morning that is associated with prescription medications. It can help improve sleep quality as well. Take in capsule form according to package directions.
Another helper is lemon balm – Mostly available as a smooth tasting tea, this herb not only helps ease the inability to sleep but also relaxes and fights fevers. It is also good for headaches and helps relax the digestive tract.
One more gift from mother nature passionflower – This herb is known to relax nerves and decrease anxiety. If you suffer from insomnia due to an overactive mind, this will help calm it. Take as a tea before bedtime. Do not mix this herb with MAO antidepressants.
Then also kava-kava – This herb helps calm and relieve muscles and is known to aid the brain in promoting sleep. Take in capsule form according to the instructions. Do not take kava-kava if you are taking sedatives, and do not use while pregnant.
Once again chamomile – chamomile is well known for its stress relieving characteristics, and is a gentle acting sleep aid. Most effective in tea form, drink a cup of chamomile tea every night before bed.
